Many thanks to the KYGENWEB crowd of Carter County, Ky and in particular to JC Porter who found the following obituary in "The Central Methodist" published April 5, 1873 (note that the publication date and date of death are CORRECT, the "Methodist" published "obits" as they got them.)

"Elizabeth Rice-, the subject of this notice was raised in Bath county, Kentucky, and removed from that place, with her husband, Campbell Rice, to what is now called Carter county, Kentucky, about fifty-four years ago. She was the mother of nine children, six sons and three daughters. Two of her daughters became the wives of traveling preachers, W. Shearer and Samuel Kelly, who were members of the Kentucky Conference at the time of their marriages. Her house was for many years a preacher's home and a church. Six of her children passed the Jordan before her-only three are left behind. Sister Kelly is one of them, and her health is bad. The writer first formed the acquaintance of Mother Rice in the year 1839, and has been familiaryly acquainted with her ever since. She was a woman of more than ordinary intellect and was as clear of faults as any one the writer ever knew. She had much to perplex her but was calm, and showed a Christian spirit always.
For the last three or four years of her life her mind so failed that she did not know her own children, or scarcely anything, yet she retained that calmness and meekness which had attended her through life. The writer believes that the world has produced few such women.
On the 9th day of November 1872, after failing and suffering for over ninety years in the world, the Father in Heaven called her home to rest with him beyond the reach of toil and pain. " signed Walter Shearer
