Dorothea (Diehl) Schneider was my great grandmother - we never met.
Controversary over her birth date. She immigrated with her German father Georg Diehl on the ship 'Albus'out of Rotterdam. The passanger ship record lists her as being age .11 (point 11) - 11 days or 11 months? (thus birth date of Jan. 1850. However, the family said she was very young - like 11 days of age. Both the 1870 and 1880 census records clearly state she was "born at sea" and "born on the Atlantic."
It appears her unnamed mother died aboard the ship and the date 13 of Nov. 1850 is written beside the death. Some later records say Dorothea was born in Germany (as she was German).
Dorothea was the widow of Joseph Peter Schneider (a baker); mother of Joseph B. b. 1867/71, John b. 1870, Kathryn b. 1872, Aloysius "Ollie" b. 1877 (possible twin Elissa or Josephine b. 1877 - d. young), Frank b. 1879 and Clarica, twin of Frank. Marion Court House burned with early records.
Dorothea died 12 Dec. 1925 of stomach cancer; residence 133 W. Columbia St., Marion, Marion Co., OH
