Arthur Straccio Sr., age 85, passed away on Monday, November 19, 2007, at his home in Hulmeville, Pa., with his loving family by his side.
Arthur was born and raised in Bristol Borough and attended public school. He was employed at Kaiser Metal Products until he entered the U.S. Army in June of 1943 as a Technician 5th Grade, 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne Division. He served in the battles of Rome-Arno, South France-Rhineland Ardenne's and Central Europe; where he received the Distinguished Unit Service Medal with five Bronze Stars. He was wounded in France on the 17th of August 1944 and received the Purple Heart. He was discharged from the service in December 1945 and returned to work at Kaisers. He devoted much of his time from 1946 to 1962 reorganizing the Robert W. Bracken Post Jr. Drum & Bugle Corps "The Bracken Cadets". As a result, he directed the cadets to many championships and they have become well-known throughout the U.S.A. bringing back to Bristol many championships. He was Post Commander of the American Legion, Robert W. Bracken Post #382 from 1957 to 1958. As a result of his many services to the community of Bristol, he was awarded "Man of the Year" by the Bristol Lions Club in June 1961. In October of 2004, Art was honored as "Man of the Year" by the Bracken Alumni for his 16 years of dedicated service as Corp Director. Upon the closing of Kaiser, he purchased the J&M Deli and then went further to open Straccio's Restaurant & Catering Service in Levittown. In 1989 he joined his wife Emma at the Lower Bucks Senior Center where he was instrumental in the renovation of the new kitchen and the third floor; plus much of the maintenance until his health failed. Arthur was a St. Ann Church parishioner and a member of St. Ann Athletic Association, Bracken American Legion Post, John Billington, and the Lower Bucks Senior Center.
He is predeceased by his son Arthur Jr.; his parents Joseph and Sperantina; his sister Rose Muccie; and brothers John, Edward and Patsy.
He is survived by his wife Emma (nee Zanni) of 57 years; his son John and his wife Margaret; granddaughters Nickole, Amanda and Samantha; faithful companion Koko; brother-in-law Anthony Zanni and his wife Edith; sister-in-law Isabella Marchese and her husband Joseph; and many thoughtful and most respected nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Friday, 6:00 - 9:00 p.m., and Saturday, 8:00 - 9:15 a.m., at the Galzerano Funeral Home, 3500 Bristol-Oxford Valley Road in Levittown. A funeral Mass will follow, 10:00 a.m., at the St. Ann Church, Interment is in Resurrection Cemetery.
Art's eventual peace was gratefully aided by the endless support of his caregiver Dolores Holden, the Chandler Hall Hospice nurses, and his dedicated friend Arthur Younglove.
