In 1971, James G. Mitchell and Edith Watkins were united in marriage in Paris, TX. James was a veteran of the US Navy. He was a retired pipe fitter, welder, and construction foreman for various industrial companies including Brown & Root and Albermaryl Chemical Corporation. Being an avid outdoorsman, James loved bass fishing and deer hunting. He won many awards and trophies in bass tournaments and archery competitions. James liked watching football and loved spending time with his family and friends
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, James and Teresa Mitchell, a sister, Teresa Ann Camp, and mother-in-law, Gertrude Watkins.
James leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Edith (Watkins) Mitchell, of the home; four sons, Douglas Mitchell and Eddie Virgin, Magnolia, AR, Chris Mitchell, Leesville, LA and Dennis Mitchell, Lake Charles, LA; four daughters, Nelda Cotton, Magnolia, AR, Tina Sanders, Texarkana, TX, Dianne Serrett, Lake Charles, LA and Angie Bertrand, Franklin, TX,; two sisters, Mary Merritt, Many, LA and Syble Spann, Tyler, TX; sixteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 29, 2007 at the Green Chapel Assembly of God Church, Herndon community. Rev. Ed Clark and Bro. Randy Watkins will be officiating. Interment will follow at Watson Cemetery at Oak Hill.
