Richard was the first school teacher in Rochester Illinois after the first school house was built there in the winter of 1823-24.
Richard left February 1825 to one of Illinois' lower counties for "business."
In 1826 the school house burned down
His wife, Mary waited for him to return until 1827 when she filed for a divorce from him assuming he had abandoned her and their son Elias. (Very uncommon for the time). Said divorce was finalized on October 4th, 1827. His ex-wife then remarried to an Andrew Johnson(Johnston) over a month later on November 11th, 1827.
Richard's death and in fact much of him is unknown. Hopefully someone reading this can find out more!
