Little history has been provided on James Knox within the Knox Family Record. However, the location of James's burial site might be found by finding which family he had closest ties with upon his death. From his first marriage with Eleanor Graham, their granddaughter, Margaret, married Samuel McCorkle who was a grand or great-grandson of Rev. Samuel Eusebius McCorkle of Thyatira Church. One might conclude that James would be buried in the same cemetery with his parents and great-grandparents at Thyatira Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

However, a Land Record dated April 17th, 1795 of James' uncle, Absalom Knox, Estate Records showing a representation of lands where Absalom Knox deceased is laid identified as Third Creek. A considerable amount of the Knox family has been buried here at the Third Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery after the Revolutionary War. James' father was killed by friendly fire at Third Creek. It appears that James' uncles, Absalom and Benjamin, descendants are buried here for the most part.

From James's second marriage with Elizabeth Foster, their daughter Margaret married John Noonan Thompson. The Thompson Family Record, "William 'Billy' Thompson, 1779-1830, born on a farm at the foot of Young's Mountain near Barber, married Elizabeth 'Betsy' Cowan, 1785-1843, the daughter of Captain Thomas Cowan, and they were the ancestors of the Thompsons buried in Unity Cemetery." John Noonan Thompson 1808-1842 is on that list of those buried within Unity Cemetery and presumed his wife Margaret is also buried there. The only tombstone as to this date found at Unity Cemetery is that of James Long Thompson and his wife Nancy and their son, John Franklin Thompson and his wife Bessie. The closer ties with Unity Presbyterian Church could very well be where we will find the remains of James Knox.

It is not known for certain where to find James Knox's Grave. This memorial can at least give us some direction where to look and inspired others to be on the watch. Any clues or suggestions are welcome and appreciated. I am a descendant of James and Elizabeth Foster Knox and I have a personal interest in locating them. It would be interesting to know when we find them whether I was close or off target in locating them.
