John was the son of William and Margaret Allen Knox.
He married Esther Luckie on April 15, 1780 in Rowan Co. N. C. They left there and moved to Kentucky, finally settling in Adams Co. Ohio. John and Esther joined the Shakers and moved to Indiana. Some of their children left the Shakers and were later in Livingston Co. Mo.
John and Esther had the following children: William, John,Nancy, Margaret,Amy, Benjamin,Joseph and Robert.
According to the journal publication, "Shakers of Ohio", John and his wife Esther died in Indiana. The Shakers had cemeteries but they didn't have tombstones so John and Esther's graves are unmarked.
