Lerlan "Sue" Byrd, 64, of Belleville, W.Va., went home to be with her Lord Nov. 28, 2007, after a brief battle with cancer.
She was born in Ritchie County, the daughter of the late Olin D. and Lulu V. Jackson. She was a 1961 graduate of Cairo High School, worked as a nurse's aide at Cedar Grove Personal Care and was a homemaker. Sue was a member of Belleville Baptist Church, where she was past treasurer, choir member and served on the Missions Committee. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society, the Star Dusters Square Dance Club, was active with the Belleville Homecoming, assistant leader with the Daniel Boone 4-H Club and was president of the Blenn/Mar CEOS.
Sue was an avid quilter belonging to Helping Hands Quilt Guild in Belleville, Crazy Quilters of the Ohio Valley, West Virginia State Quilt Guild, Ohio Quilters, American Quilters Society and the National Quilters Association.
Surviving is one son, Randall L. Byrd and his wife, Stephanie, of Pleasant Unity, Pa.; one daughter, Pamela S. Schutt and her husband, "Jib," of Katy, Texas; five grandchildren, Tyler J. and Ashley N. Schutt of Katy, Texas, and Matthew E., Nicholas J. and Logan C. Byrd of Pleasant Unity, Pa.; and one brother, Ralph Jackson of Cairo, W.Va.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leon E. Byrd; and two brothers, Lawrence and David Jackson.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St., Parkersburg, with the Rev. Scott Morehead officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. today and two hours prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.
The family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Belleville Baptist Church in Sue's memory.
