Edith Proctor James- Allison, born on February 11, 1944, died at home on January 11, 2011. Edith was the daughter of Donald Johnston Proctor of Atlanta and Letitia Vance Brooks of Memphis. She was born in Memphis, TN and grew up in Savannah, GA where she attended Savannah Country Day School. When she was sixteen, the family moved back to Memphis. Edith graduated from Miss Hutchison School and attended Mt. Vernon Junior College in Washington D.C. and then the Memphis Academy of Arts. She was a well known portrait artist and painted over 400 pastel portraits of children. Edith was a Life member of The Little Garden Club of Memphis and a member of The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in Tennessee. She was a communicant of Church of the Holy Communion where she was on the Altar Guild for many years. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Erich William James, and leaves her husband, James T. Allison. In addition, she leaves her daughter, Vance James Lewis (John), her son, Erich William James, Jr. (Allyson) and four grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 14, 2011 at 1:30 at Church of the Holy Communion. The family will receive visitors in Cheney Parish Hall from 12:30 to 1:30.
