Douglas, 86, of Caro, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at Covenant HealthCare – Harrison in Saginaw, following a brief illness. Doug was the son of the late Alex & Pauline (Jacques) LaPratt.

He enlisted with the U.S. Army and served in Korea and two tours in Vietnam. Doug's career was spent at the GM Truck and Bus Plant in Flint as a welder and janitorial engineer, retiring after more than thirty-five years of service to the company. He was united in marriage with Mary Sue Towery on May 31, 1974, and she survives. Doug's passions in life were hunting, gardening, and baking bread for family and friends.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Mary Sue LaPratt of Caro; eleven children and their spouses, Mark & Suzan Hinman of Davison, Mike & Dorene Towery of Flint, Antoine & Jen LaPratt of Caro, Doug & Pat LaPratt of Vassar, Mark & Julie LaPratt of Unionville, Gordon LaPratt of Unionville, Debra Sy of Sebewaing, Donnie LaPratt of Wyoming, Susan Mardlin of Sebewaing, Donna VanHorn of Caro, Lisa Marie & Todd Lyons of Swartz Creek; eighteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; nine siblings and their spouses, Betty Surayne, Rosemary Rich, Shirley & Casimer Lubaczewski, Dale LaPratt, Arnie LaPratt, Ronnie & Linda LaPratt, Dennis LaPratt, Keith LaPratt, Roger & Lori LaPratt; and many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at St. Christopher Parish, Sacred Heart Church in Caro with Rev. Christopher Coman officiating. Military honors afforded by the U.S. Army and the Caro American Legion Post will follow the service. The family will be present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Monday and at the church on Tuesday until the time of the service. A Rosary Service will be held on Monday at the funeral home.
