Born Étiennette Tatiana de Poliakoff-Baïdaroff into an artistic family of russian descent, she began as a child ballerina with the Paris Opera. At age 18 she turned to film acting, starting with a major debut in "Les dernières vacances" (1948). Quickly becoming a leading lady, she starred in french and international films, a handfull of them made in England. Credits include "Into the Blue" (1950/directed by Herbert Wilcox), "A Day to Remember" (1953/dir. Ralph Thomas), "The Young Lovers" (1954/dir. Anthony Asquith), "To Paris with Love" (1955/with Alec Guinness), "Checkpoint" (1956/with Stanley Baker), "Herrscher ohne Krone" (1957/in Germany), "Le Trésor des hommes bleus" (1960/with Lex Barker), "Cartouche" (1961/with Jean-Paul Belmondo), "Églantine" (1972) and "Stationschef Fallmerayer" (1976/in Austria).
The sister of actresses Marina Vlady, Hélène Vallier and Olga Baïdar-Poliakoff, she died of cancer, a few days after her 50th birthday.
