Druggist, Mayor of Norwood, Union Civil War Veteran Soldier. Born in Belmont County, Ohio, he was educated in the common schools and attended Oberlin College for two years until 1861. When the Civil War began, he volunteered to serve in the Union Army and enlisted with the 25th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was mustered into Company A as a Private and participated in several major engagements. He first saw action in Western Virginia at the Battles of Cheat Mountain and Greenbriar River and then was sent into the Shenandoah Valley. Weyer was involved in the Battles of Bull Run, Fredericksburg, and Chancellorsville, where he was severely wounded and removed from action. While suffering from his wounds, his help was required at the Battle of Gettysburg to aid those who were wounded worse than himself. He was detailed as a Hospital Steward and served in that capacity for the remainder of the war under General Adelbet Ames. When his term of enlistment expired, he re-enlisted and was eventually sent to South Carolina for duties with the medical corps well after the war was over. He was finally mustered out of the service in June of 1866 and returned to Ohio where he taught school in Columbus for seven years. In 1873, he moved to Cincinnati to study medicine at the Cincinnati College of Pharmacy. In 1874, he decided to stay in Cincinnati and established a drugstore at Elm and 6th Streets. Weyer continued to operate the store succussfully for 17 years until he left the business in 1891 to further pursue other interests. He became the first Mayor of Norwood, Ohio in 1888 and served until 1892. He then helped to organize the Ohio State Pharmaceutical Association. He died at his residence in Norwood in 1918 when he was 79 years old. He was married to Margaret A. Kelly.
