Dub was born December 20, 1939 in Olney, TX. He was the third son of the late John Franklin Sims and Lydia Essie Everett Sims. Dub was a graduate of Paint Creek High School, Haskell, TX. He graduated in the spring of 1962 from Texas Agricultural and Mechanical College.
He was a Vo-Ag teacher at Eastland (1962-65) and Throckmorton (1965-67) High schools, and then was a County Extension Agent in Midland (1967-72) and Nolan (1972-74) Counties. In 1975, he accepted a position with the Ft Worth National Bank in the Farm & Ranch Trust Department. Dub retired in 2004, after nearly 30 years in the Farm and Ranch Trust Department.
He was very involved in the beef industry but during his free time he was an avid hunter and fisherman. As a kid he grew up on the Brown & Davis Ranch near Paint Creek Community and showed Herefords through the Haskell County 4-H program. In 1955 he won Grand Champion steer at the Fort Worth Livestock Show. Later he continued to be involved with his sons' 4-H activities including working with steer and heifer projects as well as serving as a leader for the livestock judging team. He was also a steer superintendent at the Fort Worth Livestock Show and a longtime member of the Fort Worth Farm and Ranch Club.
Dub was preceded in death by his parents and both of his brothers, Frank and Ray Sims.
