She was married 1st about 1899 to John Malone (1883–1936), the son of Preston Malone and Evelyn (Gooch) Malone. Bertha was married 2nd to -- Elder. She was in Rutherford County during the 1900, 1910 and 1920 censuses, and in Nashville when the 1930 census was taken.
Living at 1814 Patterson Street in Nashville, Bertha was 77 years old, a widow and had cancer of the cecum when she died at home on January 31, 1963.
Survivors included daughters Mrs Evelyn Summers, Nettie M Hartley, Mrs Margaret M Shook and Mrs Elizabeth M Phillips, sons Deacon John Malone and Walter Malone, eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, a 2nd-great-grandson, daughters-in-law Mrs Lou Willie Malone and Mrs Georgia Marie Malone, sons-in-law Robert Summers, Henry Snook and Robert Phillips, sisters-in-law Mrs Sadie Collier and Mrs Charity Collier of Nashville, Mrs Ann Henderson and Zula Malone in Chicago, Illinois, brother-in-law Walter Malone also in Chicago and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Eulogies were on February 4th at Hill's Tabernacle, and burial was in Mount Ararat Cemetery, Nashville, with Elder's Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
