Again the death angel has entered the family circle and taken from our midest our eldest son and brother, Elva Leroy O'Dell, son of William and Evaline Short O'Dell.

Elva was born August 11, 1891 in Joseph Co, IL. He with his parents and brothers and sisters moved to Marion County at the age of 14 years, where he spent the remainder of his life having lived in Salem the past 28 years, where he was employed by the C. & E. I. R. R.

He departed this life February 9, 1941 at 10:30 P.M. in St. Mary's Hospital, Centralia, IL at the age of 49 years, 5 months, and 25 days after an illness of 2 weeks.

He leaves to mourn their loss his loving wife, Mrs. Betty Maloy O'Dell to whom he was married May 31, 1940, his three sons by a former marriage Estel of Salem, Francis of Edwardsville and Lawrence of Odin, his aged mother, Mrs. Evaline O'Dell of Xenia, two brothers Lester of Salem and Vernie of Xenia, five sisters, Mrs. Elsie Mulvaney and Mrs. Florence Greene of Kinmundy, Mrs. Blanche Durrall of Iuka, Mrs. Winnie Knapp of Salem and Mrs. Leona Martin of Urbana, IL, and one granddaughter, Phillis Marily O'Dell of Salem.

He was preceded in death by his father, William O'Dell November 26, 1931, one infant brother and his only daughter, Lois Pauline who passed away in 1925 at the age of ten years after a lingering illness of Typhoid Fever. Elva was ill for weeks at thsi same time and his life hung in the balance but the Heavenly Father saw fit to spare him for fifteen years before calling him home.

Elva was a loving son and husband and a devoted father. He was liked by all his fellowmen and had a smile for all. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. We have suffered a great loss but we feel that his body which has suffered such intense pain in now at rest and we hope to meet him in a better world where sickness and death never come.
