Mildred Matilda "Meekey" Franklin was the daughter of Gideon Edwards and Anna "Nancy" Perkins.

Spouse : U.S. Congressman Meshack Franklin; brother of Governor Jesse Franklin of North Carolina.
Meshack and Mildred Matilda were married in 1802, Surry County, North Carolina.
*Note: Marriage Bond record indicates "Melly," however Mildred was known to be "Meekey"(var. spellings).

The Edwards-Franklin House was built in 1799 by Mildred Matilda's father Gideon Edwards. At the time of Gideon Edwards' death, the plantation exceeded 2300 acres, which was divided up in accordance to his Will among his wife Anna and their children.
Later the home was occupied by Mildred Matilda and Meshack Franklin. The home was remodeled by Meshack emulating the Federal style of the 1820s, which included decorative painting to imitate marble on the paneling, mantels, and staircase.
Following the Franklin family, the Edwards-Franklin House was home to the McMickle and Blevins families.
Today, the Edwards-Franklin House is owned and maintained by the Surry County Historical Society.
