"LARGE CORTEGE FOR JOS. MORONI -- WELL KNOWN BAND LEADER AND MUSICIAN BURIED IN THE EVELETH CEMETERY LAST SUNDAY
With one of the largest funerals accorded a local person, the body of Joseph Moroni, was carried to the Eveleth cemetery last Sunday afternoon for interment, after services were held at the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Mr. Moroni died early Friday morning, from heart disease. He had gone to bed in the usual manner with no complaints, but he awakened at four o'clock and complained of chills. He died soon after, even before the doctor who was summoned immediately, arrived.
The cortege was headed by the Eveleth municipal band, of which organization, deceased had been a director for some time, and they played the funeral dirge which Mr. Moroni had himself composed. It is called 'The Last Bell.'
Mr. Moroni was born in Rome, Italy and was 58 years old. He was active in his work up until the time of his death and the end came peacefully. He was very well known in Eveleth, having come here in 1910. He was leader of the Italian band of this city, and for a time was director of the municipal band. He was a fine musician himself and taught music in his spare time.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Rose Moroni, by three sons and three daughters, John, Alfred, Peter, Mary, Mrs. Mariucci, of this city, and Elvira, who resides in Italy."
