Mable Lee Byrd passed away October 24, 2021.

Born September 5, 1949 in Dendron, VA to the parents of Mable and Liston Chambliss Sr. Mable Lee loved to help others even at an early age she stayed close beside her mom and would often help with household chores instead of playing outside with children her own age. She attended Luther Porter Jackson High School before marrying the love of her life Melvin Byrd.

Mable Lee was devoted to God and her family. She was faithful in her fellowship and worship to the Lord. She regularly attended Sunday services at the Army Regimental Chapel, Fort Eustis, VA with her husband Melvin.

After his death, Mable Lee started attending The Peninsula Pentecostals with her daughter Shelly. Mable Lee was a joy to be around. She loved to laugh and talk on the phone with her sisters, brother Liston Jr. and her cousin Virginia. To know Mable Lee was love her. Mable Lee also loved to dance. She is now dancing before the Lord.

Mable Lee loved her family. She was the kind of mother that would give you her last bit of food if you were still hungry. Mable Lee was blessed with 5 children whom she loved dearly.

Preceded in death by her father Liston Chambliss Sr; mother Mable Chambliss; husband of 45 years Melvin Byrd; brother Joseph Chambliss; and sister Louise McNair.

Survived by her daughters, Yolanda (Brian) and Shelly Harris; sons, Pastor Anthony (Nichole) Byrd, Vector (Kelly) Byrd, Derrick (Nana) Byrd; grandchildren, Shalee, Javoen, Keyona, Tanya, Latrice, Eric, Lyanna, Elana, Jazmyne, Janeyia, Tavaris, Raquale, Olivia, Christina, Adelynn and Johnathan; great grandchildren, Jeremiah, Micah, Sadie, Grace, Ivy, Gabriella, Emery and Cerion; sisters, Mary Ann Guice, Geraldine (Ronnie) Freeman, Sarah Anne Gray, Linda Bailey, Carolyn Motten and Thelma (Earl) Brown; brother, Liston Chambliss Jr; sister-in-law, Edith Byrd; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Viewing will be October 31, 2021, at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel, 1601-27th Street, Newport News, Virginia. A funeral service will be held November 1, 2021 at The Peninsula Pentecostal Church, 404 Sharon Dr., Newport News, Virginia 23602.
