JACKSONVILLE – James (Jim) Alexander Browning, 87, was born on October 12, 1934 in Burke County, North Carolina and died on November 10, 2021 at Carolina East Medical Center in New Bern, NC.

He was a lifelong Marine with a love of country and service. He died shortly before Veteran's Day on the 246th birthday of the United States Marine Corps.

A Graveside service is planned for Noon on Thursday, November 18, 2021, at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville.

Jim was born and raised in the mountains of North Carolina. He served in the United Sates Marine Corps and achieved the rank of Gunnery Sergeant, completing multiple tours in Vietnam. He served his country fighting for the freedoms we all hold dear for over 21 years. Grandpa Jim loved and cherished his family. His service and dedication to family and country will never be forgotten.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James Grady Browning and Ethel M. Dellinger Browning; and one daughter, Johnelle Browning.

Jim is survived by five children: Richard J. Browning of Fayetteville; Jamie Swauger and husband Harry of Pensacola, FL; Jodi Watterson of Greensboro; James Browning Jr. and wife Melisa of Richlands; and Jennifer Anderson and husband John of Wilmington. Nine grandchildren: Jarred Hall (Kayla), James Hall (Jeni), Jordan Hall, Justin Hall, James Browning, III (Christina), Megan Ray (Austin), Katie Watterson, Huske Anderson and London Anderson. Seven Great-grandchildren: Allison, Emily, Winery, Warren, Jaelyn, Jasper, Link, and Rush.
