Audrey Jean Short of Vassar, age 83, passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at United Hospice Residence in Marlette. Audrey was born July 3, 1938 in Cass City, the daughter of the late John and Ina (Shantz) Anker and was a graduate of Cass City High School class of 1956. She was united in marriage with Ralph Short on February 14, 1986 in Caro, and he survives. She worked the paint and assembly line at Saginaw Steering Gear, retiring in 1998. Following her retirement, Audrey was able to relax and enjoy many things, especially traveling, camping, and riding motorcycles through the countryside. She also enjoyed knitting, reading, working with plastic canvas and jigsaw puzzles. The family would like to express a special thank you to United Hospice and staff for their care and compassion in caring for Audrey.

In addition to her husband, Audrey is survived by three sons, Terry Kuck of Cass City, Gregory Kuck of Cass City, and Timothy Kuck of Lebanon, Tennessee; three step-children, Chet Short of Vassar, Dustin Short of Otter Lake, Kelly Olszewski and husband, Wally, of Huntsville, Alabama; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Geraldine Brown, Mary Ellen Thayer, Cathy Anker, all of Vassar, and Lyle Anker of Cass City; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Audrey was preceded in death by one son, Phillip Kuck; and five siblings.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at Grace Lutheran Church in Vassar. The family will be present to receive friends at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. A private committal will be held at a later date at Elkland Township Cemetery in Cass City. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.
