Funeral services, officiated by Father Silvius Sfera, will be held on Saturday, October 27th, at Holy Cross Romanian Orthodox Church "Sfnta Cruce", 6232 Fillmore Street, Hollywood 33024. Visitation starts at 9:30am and the service begins at 10:00am. The burial service will follow at 11:15am at Hollywood Memorial Gardens, 6301 Taft Street Hollywood, Florida 33024. Friends and family are then invited to an honorary luncheon at the church social hall starting at 12:30pm.
John was born in Bucharest, Romania, on April 15, 1928. His father was Dr. Nicolae Metianu, a prominent otolaryngologist who introduced ear, nose, and throat medical practice in Romania. John achieved his engineering college degree and spent as much time as he could outdoors and with friends. Just as a fortune teller predicted, John met his blue-eyed Elena in 1962 while at a work related seminar and soon thereafter they were married. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1976 with his wife and two boys, two suitcases, a $100 bill rolled up in a tube of toothpaste and two fishing poles. John worked for the Hollywood Police Department as the photo lab technician, developing his last photo in 1995. He gained many friends there. John enjoyed fishing, boating (when he didn't catch any fish), grilling, reading Consumer Reports and car magazines, watching Jungle Book, keeping in touch with friends and spending time with his kids and grandkids.
John is survived by his wife Elena, children Nick, John and Cristina; grandchildren Andrei, Daniela, Nicholas and Ariana; daughters-in-law Mihaela and Caroline; family members Calin Moraru, Rodica Grigore, Mihai Metianu, Silvia & Octavian Dan, Dumitra Negoita, and many, many friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Pelican Harbor Seaside Station Miami or Wildlife Care Center of South Florida. The family of John Metianu wishes to thank Dr. Moises Issa and his entire staff, VITAS Healthcare, Annette, Ita, Faye and Rose, Zacary Brookin and Fred Hunter's funeral services staff. He was loved and will be missed dearly. His legacy will always be remembered.
