MCLEAN, VERNICE MARIE - Vernice Marie McLean of Fredericton passed away peacefully in her 95th year on Thursday, August 20th, 2009 at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a short period of failing health. She was the widow of Lt. Col. M. Yorke McLean. Born in Geary, Vernice was the daughter of the late William and Mabel Till and was predeceased by her brother, Lyman and sisters, Freda, Marion and Audrey. She is survived by her son, Douglas and his wife Marion of Quispamsis; grandchildren, Dennis (Rachelle) of Ottawa and Robyn of Quispamsis; and several nieces and nephews. Vernice was most proud of her grandchildren, along with her crocheted, knitted and needlepoint handcrafts which she enjoyed making all her life. She was an avid cook and had a fondness for animals, old-time country music and flowers. The Funeral Service will be at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB at 10:00 am on Monday, August 24th, 2009 in the T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel with Rev. Gil MacKenzie officiating. Interment will follow at Sunny Bank Cemetery. Donations to the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation, the Canadian National Institute for the Blind or charity of choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
