Chico Daily Record, Saturday, June 7, 1902, pg 1 col 3: Jake Vandervoort Dies. Jacob Vandevoort died at the Hallam House yesterday morning. About two weeks ago he underwent an operation for strangulation of the intestines. In the operation, was the last hope of saving him, and the physicians, after opening his abdomen thought he could not live more than a week.
Deceased was aged 56 years, and so far as known he had no relatives. He served two years in the Civil War.
The funeral will take place this afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Christian Church.
