I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the snow on the mountain's rim,
I am the laughter in children's eyes,
I am the sand at the water's edge,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle Autumn rain,
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight,
I am the star that shines at night,
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die...
Glynice Westberry was only 18 hours old whenever she died. She was the daughter of William Alvin and Vera Griffis Westberry. She was the sister of Hazel, Hayden and Dwight Westberry. She was the half-sister of Mattie Mae and Helen Westberry. Her mother, Vera, kept her memory alive. She had someone build a fence around her baby daughter's grave. Unfortunately, the last time Vera went to visit the grave, the fence and the headstone were gone. This broke Vera's heart. In 1991 Vera Westberry died. I like to picture her in Heaven holding the baby that she had lost many years ago. Glynice will always be remembered.
