Etowah Enterprise
May 1949

Mamie Jo Horton, Enterprise reporter, wrote a story about a young Etowah man who had made good in his profession. He had worked his way to the top with the Gem and Martin Theaters. T.J. Carroll, age 21, had just been named manager of the Martin Theater in Columbus, Georgia. According to Miss Horton's story, Mr. Carroll had started with the Gem Theater in Etowah at age 12 delivering movie circulars house to house over Etowah. He eventually was promoted to being a ticket taker and then on to an assistant manager. Mr. Carroll was made a manager of a theater in Cartersville, Georiga, before being named manager of the theater in Columbus. Mr. Carroll and his wife, the former Eva Sue Newman, and their daughters, Dianne and Nancy, were getting set to move to Columbus very soon.
