Olympic Gold Medalist. Italian fencer, he was one of the greatest fencers of the twenties, he excelled both in the saber and in the foil, winner of six Olympic medals, five gold and one silver. Trained at the Circolo Fides Fides of Livorno, he was a pupil of Beppe Nadi and roommate of Aldo Nadi, Nedo Nadi and others, in his career he has collected trophies and victories in major international competitions. In 1919, after the First World War, he won the inter-allied tournament in both saber and foil in Joinville (Paris). The first Olympic medals came at the Games of the VII Olympiad in Antwerp in 1920, where he won the gold medal in the saber and foil team competitions, in whose individual competitions he placed fourth and seventh respectively. Four years later at the Games of the VIII Olympiad in Paris he regained the gold in the saber teams, but the foil team finished fourth. On an individual level he only participated in the foil competition because the team was withdrawn in protest at the decision of a referee. In 1927 he participated in the International Fencing Championship, winning gold in individual foil. At the Games of the IX Olympiad in Amsterdam in 1928 he won two other team medals, the third consecutive gold in the saber and the silver in the foil, where he again placed fourth in the individual competition. 1929 was the year of the last appearance in the international arena, he participated in the European championships, in Naples in individual foil and in the international fencing championship, in 1930 he participated in the world team championships regaining both titles where he won gold in both foil competitions. The Ostend World Cup was his last appearance on the international stage.
