Professional Soccer Player. He was a French footballer who was active in the Resistance during World War II. Born to Italian parents who emigrated to France, Rino Della Negra had felt the heavy and violent breath of Fascism on his neck even before he was born. In 1923 his mother gave birth to him as the family crossed the Alps, fleeing to France, precisely in Vimy, as they were persecuted by the Fascist regime. From a very young age he started working at the Chausson factory and developed a visceral love for soccer. His passion and talent soon made him notice by the youth team of the Red Star Olympique, a team from the Parisian banlieue of proletarian origin founded in 1897 by Jules Rimet and Ernst Weber, which between 1935 and 1939 triumphed in the French second division and included footballers of the caliber by Helenio Herrera and Guillermo Stabile. He was a flexible winger, who worked hard and in the hundred meters, he was a splinter, showing good ball possession, thus he received a place in the main team. He was placed on the teams that would keep him during the German occupation of France, playing some matches against teams with members of German soldiers. Besides soccer, he had stronger calling than that of the soccer field, the France Resistance. During 1942, he went underground, joining one of the detachments of the FTP-Moi (Francs-tireurs et partisans - main-d'œuvre immigrée), a group of partisans that were immigrants and commanded by the legendary Missak Manouchian, coordinator of about three hundred shares from August to November of 1943 in the Paris area. He participated in some particularly daring deeds, such as the murder of General Von Apt and the assault on the headquarters of the Fascist party in the French capital. He became a real curse for the German occupiers, who are unable to dismantle that organization. He was responsible for sensational acts, among which the most famous one becomes the execution of SS General Julius Ritter, who was responsible for the deportation of numerous workers to Germany. On November 12, 1943, some members of the FTP-Moi attack a Nazi security van, but their plan fails and he and others were taken prisoner. A few days later Manouchian will also be arrested and the entire network was destroyed. Della Negra, just twenty-one years old, was executed at the Fort of Mont-Valérien on the morning of February 24, 1944. Today the Red Star plays between Ligue 2 and the National and its fans continue to define themselves as anti-fascists with conviction. His memory is kept alive through choirs and banners. The grandstand of the stadium is also dedicated to him.
