Chester F. Ryder, age 94, of 4305 Menasha Ave., Manitowoc, died on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007, at his residence.

Chester was born on Sept. 16, 1913, in Manitowoc, son of the late Joseph and Mary (Marshek) Ryder. Chester attended schools in Manitowoc and graduated with the class of 1931 from Lincoln High School, Manitowoc. Chester served in World War II in the 8th Air Force, being discharged as a corporal in 1945. He married the former Florence M. Justman on Oct. 10, 1956, in Manitowoc. She preceded him in death on Jan. 2, 2004. Chester worked for the Manitowoc Shipyards for 42 years as a truck driver, until his retirement in 1978.

Survivors include one son: Mike Ryder and his fiancée, Nancy Linsmeier, Manitowoc; two grandchildren: Amanda J. Ryder and special friend, Jason Urban, Two Rivers; and Mark J. Ryder, Manitowoc; one great-grandchild: Keanna Marie Urban, Two Rivers; and two special friends: JoAnn Rathsack and Wally Miller, both of Manitowoc. Nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife: Florence; one brother: Clarence Ryder; two sisters: Genevieve Ryder; and Geneva Fisher; and one brother-in-law: John Fisher.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007, at Knollwood Chapel Mausoleum, 1500 Highway 310, Manitowoc. The Rev. Marcia Solberg will officiate, with entombment to follow at Knollwood Mausoleum. Military services will be accorded by the VFW Otto Oas Post 659.

Relatives and friends may call from 10 a.m., until the time of the service at 11 a.m.
