Capt. Parsons left Newburyport 10 Feb 1772 headed for the West Indies. He commanded a small schooner with a crew of eight men. They stopped at the port at St. Mary's, Nova Scotia, and when they set sail again, the ship was pirated and left to burn. Capt. Parsons and his entire crew did not survive.

So, he did die at sea, off the coast of St. Mary's, Nova Scotia.
