SMETHPORT - Bonnie Jean Abbey, 76, of East Smethport, passed away Friday (Dec. 24, 2021) at UPMC-Cole, Coudersport.
She was born June 24, 1945 in East Smethport, the daughter of Keith Smith and Sarah Eckstrom Smith. In May of 1991, in Smethport, she married Carl L. "Bud" Abbey, who survives.
Mrs. Abbey was a 1963 graduate of Smethport High School and attended Olean (N.Y.) Business Institute. Bonnie worked as a supervisor at Smethport Specialties in Smethport.
Bonnie enjoyed spending time with family and friends, shopping, knitting and crocheting, collecting Fenton Glass, playing the organ, word search puzzles, playing solitaire on the computer, listening to country music, and watching her favorite football team, the Buffalo Bills. She was a member of the Coleville Christian Gospel Church and sang in their choir.
She enjoyed the company of her beloved dog, "Smitty."
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Leonard Keyser of Eldred and Michael (Jessie) Wood of Smethport; one daughter, Robin (Brian) Freer of Smethport; three stepchildren, James Abbey of Wilcox, Elizabeth (Bruce) Bee of Port Allegany, and Gretchen Daugherty of Bradford; eight grandchildren, Jason, Larry, Sommer, Carly, Christy, Corinna, Brittney, and Kolin; five stepgrandchildren, Logan, Ian, Tyler, Gavin and Grayson; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Keith "Chub" Smith of Smethport; a sister, Shirley Hamilton in Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Bonnie was preceded in death by one sister, Ruby Cook.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, where funeral services will begin at 7 p.m. after visitation. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Smethport.
