May 5, 1896 issue of Illinois State Register:

At the family residence, No. 521 North Fourth street, Sunday, May 3, 1896, at 12:30 p.m., of brain fever, Zebulon G. Cantrall, aged 60 years, 11 months and 26 days.

Mr. Cantrall was born in Sangamon county, May 7, 1835, and has resided in the county since. He was married in 1864 to Elizabeth Lilly, now deceased. He was well known and highly respected in Springfield and the surrounding country, having held several different positions in the city. For a number of years he was a member and deacon of the Christian church at Cantrall. Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, A. E. and Z. G. Cantrall, and two daughters, Mrs. W. S. Womack and Mrs. F. A. Gillman, all of this city. He also leaves two brothers, J. M. and W. G. Cantrall, of Cantrall. About four months ago he was struck on the head by some unknown person, fracturing his skull, which resulted in brain fever.

The funeral occurred at 2 p.m. yesterday from the residence, the Rev. A. P. Cobb, pastor of the Christian church, of this city, officiating. The interment was in the Cantrall cemetery.
