Sponny retired from PENNDOT and was a lifetime member of Grace Evangelical Luthern Church. He was a longtime member of the Gettysburg Legion, Gettysburg VFW, Gettysburg Moose, McSherrystown Social Club, Littlestown Eagles, Bonneauville Catholic War Veterans, New Oxford Social Club, & Fairfield Amvets. He served his country in the US Army.
Sponny is survived by former wife Bet ty Ford Sponseller, son Ellsworth "Perk" Sponseller and wife Alice, daughter Nancy Gebhart and husband Gary, five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, & four sisters - Esther Buhol, Charlotte Slaybaugh,Dot Shelleman, and Nancy Sheely. He was predeceased by sisters Helen Huff, Anna Sterner and Ruth Groft. He was also predeceased by grandson Ted Martin and his long time companion Viola Legore Kuhn.
Pallbearers were Mike Sheeley, Harlod Bachman, Jim Groft, Skip Slaybaugh, and Gary Slaybaugh.
Sponny was one of my husband's (Eugene D Bair) best friends and I have many fond memories of Sponny. Sponny was the kind of guy that would do anything for you if he could. He knew how much I like lilacs and would always send some home with me when they were in bloom. He and Gene used to spend a lot of time together hunting and cutting wood.
