Son of Isabella Cavanagh and James Hanlon. The Hanlon's were a family mason's and were part of the Peter Robinson settlement in 1825. Maurice, his parents and many of his siblings, as adults, settled in Otonabee township. Maurice married Joanna Clancy and they had several children. James, Mary, Ellen appear on a local Otonabee township census in 1839. Isabella Hanlon also appears with them but she was the daughter of Maurice's elder brother, Michael with his first wife. Maurice and Joanna cared for Isabella when Michael remarried at his first wife's death. Other children were, Johanna, Catherine, Francis and the youngest, Margaret, who was born in the U.S. Around 1850 Maurice's work as a mason took him away from Peterborough County and he moved his family with him finally settling in Hamilton, Ontario in the late 1850's. The last known record of his family was in 1876.
