God called another angel to sit by his side. Verlena Jones of Conroe, Texas passed away Monday morning, January 17, 2022, at her home. She was born in Indiana in November 1929. She was preceded in death by her parents Verl and Hazel Tobias. Also sisters Betty Springer, Ethel Stinger, Ollie Fleming, Mollie Simmons. Her brothers Oliver Tobias, Charles Tobias and Clifford Tobias. Also some nephews and niece.
She is survived by husband John Jones and sister Laura Tobias Rich. Many wonderful nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews who loved their Aunt V or Mimi as she was lovingly called.
Verlena started her working career at Marsh Supermarket in Elwood, Indiana. She loved her work as a bookkeeper and continued to progress through the Marsh organization. Working at a Marsh store in Anderson, Indiana then being promoted to a Marsh Supermarket in Lafayette where she became only the second woman to serve as an Assistant Manager in the Marsh Organization. She was very proud and we were all proud of her.
She retired after 35 years and did the things that made her the happiest. She loved planting flowers and always keeping the landscape pretty. Another thing she liked doing was going to the casino. Traveling back and forth to Texas to visit her brother and sister's family was her favorite pastime. She was available to all family and friends with help, love and to comfort them when needed.
At Verlena's request there will be no visitation or funeral.
