PORTLAND, Ore. -- A little girl who captured thousands of people's hearts when her battle with cancer aired on a nationally-televised show has died.

Jenessa "Boey" Byers, 8, from Corvallis suffered from a rare type of childhood cancer.

She died Friday at Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland where doctors were treating her for pneumonia.

This past summer, thousands fell in love with the little girl after the hit show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" built the girl's family a new home.
