After a brief illness, Diana, 73, of Minneapolis, KS, died Monday, January 24, 2022 in Myrtle Beach, SC, surrounded by family. Known as Dee to those who loved her, she was born in Lincoln, KS on November 23, 1948, to Patricia Louise (Boucek) and Gerald Frederick Smith. She is preceded in death by her parents, a daughter-in-law Cory Douglas (Moore, wife of James), and Jerry Wayne Douglas, her husband of 42 years.

Dee returned to Minneapolis from New Orleans in the early 2000's, when Jerry retired from his civilian Air Force career. She enjoyed crafting and volunteering with various community programs. In addition to helping her neighbors and anyone in need, she was also an avid animal lover known to rescue every stray cat and the occasional raccoon--which, without her glasses, she probably thought were large cats. Her true passions were visiting with people, traveling, and falling asleep five minutes into any movie.

She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include son James Michael Douglas of Myrtle Beach, SC and his three children Kristin, Joshua, and Matthew; daughter Jennifer (Douglas) Zook and husband Brian of Shepherdstown, WV; sister Debra A. (Smith) Grey and husband Stephan of Valentine, NE; niece Ashley M. (Grey) Swinney and husband Ryan with grandson Carter Nicholas of Cheyenne, WY; close friends Jay Quinn, of Minneapolis, KS and T. Lynn Phair of Anderson, IN; and many other neighbors and friends, including Al and Joanne Miles, Justin and Annie Abell, Twila Wilson, and Kim Radke, all in the Minneapolis area.

Services will be on March 26, 2022 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Minneapolis with a rosary at 10:30 followed by Mass at 11:00. In place of flowers, the family requests donations to www.als.org and for everyone to remember to love unconditionally and be kind to one another.
