Actor. He is best known for appearing in the roles of cowhands, jailers, and sheriffs, in several classic western films of the 1920s and 1930s. He will be best remembered for playing the role of 'George Randall' in the western film, "The Border Legion" (1930), which also starred Richard Arlen, Jack Holt, and Fay Wray of "King Kong" (1933), fame. He was born one of ten as Clarence Green Allen in Carrolton, Missouri, to Arthur Williamson Allen (1841-1924), and his wife Fannie M. Green Allen (1861-1938), on May 27, 1882. and he initially started his acting career by appearing in numerous stage productions in New York City from 1905 to 1920, before moving to Los Angeles, California, to appear in films. He made his actual film debut playing the role of 'Salem Hardieker' in the short comedy-drama, "The Ballad of Fisher's Boarding House" (1922). The film which was directed by Frank Capra, written for the screen by Walter Montague, and based on a short poem by Rudyard Capra, and which also starred Mildred Owens, Olaf Skavlan, Gerald Griffin, and Oreste Seragnoli, tells the story of Fultah Fisher who runs a boarding house catering to seamen passing through the port. A girl known as Anne of Austria has had many lovers amongst the sailors, but presently she's known to be the "property" of Salem Hardieker, a tough Bostonian. When Anne's eye drifts to a new potential lover, Hans the Dane, he spurns her, knowing she's Salem's girl. But hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Besides, "The Ballad Of Fisher's Boarding House" (1922), and "The Border Legion" (1930), his many other film credits include, "The Flood" (1931), "West Of Cheyenne" (1931), "The Avenger" (1931), "The Lightning Flyer" (1931), "The Two Gun Man" (1931), "The Ridin' Fool" (1931), "Alias The Bad Man" (1931), "Too Many Cooks" (1931), "Murals For Women" (1931), "Topa Topa" (1938), "The Singing Cowgirl" (1938), "Water Rustlers" (1939), "Trigger Pals" (1939), "Riders Of The Black River" (1939), "Taming Of The West" (1939), "Flaming Land" (1939), and his last film, "The Stranger From Texas" (1939). He continued to act until his death. During his acting career, he also used the names of Ethan C. Allen and Ethan H. Allen. He was married to Dorothy Allen with who he had a daughter named Elizabeth. He was featured using archival footage of himself in the documentary film, "Monster Invaders from Space" (2018).
