Nick was born in Kars, Russia (now Eastern Turkey. He is the son of William Joseph Asayvich Shubin Sr. (1888-1960) and Pauline Nicholas Seminoff (1891-1967). He is one of nine known children: John, Lenore, Nicholas, Mary Ann, William, Pearl, Stephen, Dorothy and James.
Nick immigrated from Russia and arrived at New York Ellis Island on 02 Apr 1913. He came with his parents and two of his siblings.
The 1920 U.S. Federal Census shows Nick and his family living on Buckeye Road in Maricopa County, Arizona. His father was a farmer. By 1930, the census shows his family living at 892 Missouri Street on Potrero Hill in San Francisco, CA. His father was a laborer in a junk shop and he worked as a clerk in a laundry.
Nick married Pearl William Bibioff (1913-1983)on January 7, 1937 in San Francisco, CA. They have two children Jo Ann (1937-1987) and Nickolas (1940-1992)
Nick's sister Lenore does not remember her brother as an adult, only as a young child. She remembers him being a happy boy and always smiling and laughing. That is a precious memory.
