She was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County and the daughter of the late Columbus Walter Riley Dockery and Phoebe Woody Dockery. She was a homemaker and wife of John Winston Farmer for over 63 years. She enjoyed crocheting and sewing, reading, canning and cooking. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great- great grandmother to 5 children, 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren. She loved her family and enjoyed many precious visits from all of them. Hazel was a member of the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Winston Farmer; one son Johnny Harold Farmer; two brothers Richard Dockery and Clifford Dockery and one sister, Hattie Stegall.
She is survived by one son Gordon Farmer and wife Peggy, and a daughter-in-law, Ramona Farmer; three daughters, Carolyn Brannon and husband, Billy, Nancy Hickey and husband, Richard, Gloria Hyde and husband, Mitch; 14 grandchildren, John Farmer II, Robert Brannon and wife Lisa, Angie Hynson and husband Kip, Susan Lindsey and husband Travis, Teresa Rogers and husband Shaun, Mark Hickey and wife Sara, Amanda Lance and husband Jamie, Stephanie Swanson and husband Chris, Ryan Farmer and wife Jenn, Seth Hyde, Bethany Nichols and husband Trent, Heather Brady and husband Chris, Kadin Burd and Gary Adkins and wife Kendra; 28 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. Rev. Jerry Kilpatrick and Rev. Aud Brown will officiate. Burial will be in the Unaka Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons and Honorary Pallbearers will be great-grandsons.
The family will receive friends from 12pm – 2pm Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy.
