Retired Marine Col. Gilbert Don Bradley, 65, of Vista, died May 12. There will be no services.

He was born in Harding County, N.M. In 1940, he and Mary Eunice Paulk, of Albuquerque and Estancia, were married.

He was a teacher and coach at Mosquero High School and House High School in New Mexico, prior to joining the Marine Corps in 1942. He was commissioned second lieutenant in 1943 and was assigned to the 4th Marine Division and sent to San Diego for tank school training. His division went to the South Pacific, where he participated in the invasions of the Marshall Islands, Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima. He was awarded the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was active in the Retired Officers Association, the Military Order of the Carabous, the Military Order of the Purple Heart and the Disabled American Veterans.

Col. Bradley's survivors include his wife, Mary of Vista; two daughters, Glenna Bradley-House of Seattle, Wash., and Janice Sullivan of Vista; five grandchildren; a brother, Donald of Encinitas, and a sister, Edla Reynolds of Santa Rosa.

Cremation is planned, with ashes to be scattered at sea. Allen Brothers Mortuary, Vista, is in charge of arrangements.
