Born in the Naomi community October 9, 1928, he was a son of the late Hamp and Florence Turpin Merrick Ard. He was a retired teacher; Mason; Shriner; and a member and deacon of Duke Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include three brothers, Carter and Hubert Ard and Carl Merrick, all of Somerset; a sister, Bonnie Merrick Ard, Somerset; and four nieces, Zella Pearson, Joyce Lyons, Carroll Woody and Florencie Cummins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers, Lilbert, Lester, Charlie, Herford and Cuvia Ard and Clarence Merrick.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home with the Rev. David Morris officiating.
Burial will be in Tarter Cemetery.
Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
