Saint John Globe, Sat 09 Apr 1887: "George August BARKER is a son of T.B. BARKER, Esq., and was born in Sheffield (Sunbury Co.) 8 Nov. 1842. He received his education at the St. John Grammar School. He was married in 1867 to Laura McDONALD d/o J.D. McDONALD. In 1859 he entered the store of S.L. TILLEY, now Lt. Gov., to learn the drug business. His father afterwards purchased Mr. Tilley's business and in 1870 he was taken into partnership with his fathers and brothers. A few years ago, Geo. A. BARKER took charge of the retail branch. George was elected Mayor of Saint John in 1889 but died the same year.
