Ms. Verdell Harley Raysor, 78, of 1501 Redwood Drive, was called from earth's labors and toils to reward on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at her residence in West Columbia.  She was surrounded at bedside by her family.  Verdell Harley Raysor was born May 1, 1934 in Blackville, South Carolina, the 7th sibling born to Mr. Otis Harley, Sr. and Mrs. Clara Sutton Harley.

At an early age, she was baptized and served faithfully as a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Blackville, South Carolina. She received secondary education in the public school system of Barnwell County, South Carolina. Upon relocation to New York, Ms. Raysor furthered her education at Mats Nursing School in Queens, New York. For the next thirty (30) years, she spent her life pursuing her profession in health care.

Soon after settling in Queens, New York, Ms. Verdell Harley Raysor continued her faith in Christ and became a member of Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church, Queen, New York where she served loyally for many years as an usher board member.

She was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Mr. Henry Clay Raysor. Together they reared seven children.

In 1990, Ms. Raysor returned to South Carolina and continued her love for taking care of others at Rikards Nursing Home. This love was further exemplified as she opened her home to those who needed care until 1999 when her health began to fail. Upon relocating to Columbia, she joined Brooklyn Baptist Church where she served faithfully as an usher board member, sanctuary choir member and missionary board member until her death.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Verdell Harley Raysor is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Clay Raysor; her brothers: Johnny Harley, Otis Harley, Jr., Samuel Harley, James Harley and John Harley; her sisters: Julia Bell Gregg and Jeanette Harley.

She leaves to mourn her passing her children: Lawrence Minus, Jr. of Blackville, South Carolina, Lynette Carrigan of West Columbia, South Carolina, Willie Minus (Dauhn) of West Palm Beach, Florida and Francia Montague (Michael) of West Columbia, South Carolina; Her step children: Betty Washington (James) of Gaston, South Carolina, Gloria Raysor of Far Rockaway, New York and Shirley Taylor Walker (Terrance) of Amityville, New York; A beloved great grand daughter who was reared in the home, Kiayana Sutton of West Columbia, South Carolina; (4) Brothers: McKinley Harley (Mozelle) of Aiken, South Carolina, Jessie Harley of Baltimore, Maryland, James Harley and Kenneth Harley, both of New York, New York; (3) Sisters: Thelma Forehand (Alford) of Aiken, South Carolina, Yvonne Harley of Bronx, New York and Gloria Knight Taylor (Donald) of Lexington, South Carolina; (3) Sisters-in-law: Ms. Elouise Raysor of Blackville, South Carolina, Ida Mae Bennett (Johnny) of Columbia, South Carolina and Ms. Delores Harley of Newport News, Virginia; (2) Brothers-in-law: Willie Raysor (Sadie) of Sumter, South Carolina and Emmanuel Raysor (Marcella) of Blackville, South Carolina; (25) Grandchildren; (53) Great grandchildren; (8) Great great grands; A host of other relatives and friends.
