Adolph Bednar, 79, of 741 Delaware Ave, passed away on Saturday, August 1, after a long illness.

Born in Czechoslovakia, he had lived in Akron since 1927, when he married the former Ruth Frances (Tambling) Crawford in West Virginia on Sept. 22, 1927. He was a member of Westminister Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and a trustee for Benevolance and Christian Education funds.

A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, serving as an officer in the U.S. Navy, Mr. Bednar was a retired Naval engineer. He retired in 1964 as a vice president of Lucian Q. Moffitt Rubber Bearing Sales. He was a member of the University Club of Akron, the U.S. Power Squadron, American Society of Naval Engineers and the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers.

Along with his wife, he leaves a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Bednar; son, William A.; and two granddaughters.

Services on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Westminister Presbyterian Church on W. Exchange St. with burial in Rose Hill Burial Park.
