Michael Anton Chermak, age 91, of Manitowoc passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, February 24, 2022.

He was born on February 9, 1931 to Anton and Agnes (Howard) Chermak in Wadena, Minnesota. He moved to Manitowoc at the age of 5 and attended Manitowoc Public Schools graduating from Lincoln High School in 1949. Mike enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. and was stationed in Memphis, Tennessee. He was discharged from the Marines the weekend before war was declared on Korea on June 25, 1950.

Mike graduated from Marquette University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1959. He accomplished this while at the same time working as a draftsman at Imperial Eastman on a co-op plan. Throughout his career he served in multiple roles and traveled around the world for Imperial Eastman until his retirement after 52 years of dedication to the company.

On June 28, 1952 he married his high school sweetheart, Patricia (Mayerl) Chermak and together they celebrated 64 years of marriage prior to Patricia's death in 2016. They worked together to provide a happy home life for their children and a nurturing environment for all those they knew and loved.

Survivors include his children: Anne Chermak of Madison, Wisconsin; Peter and Mary (Hansen) Chermak of Token Creek, Wisconsin; Elizabeth and Tom Tearpock of Manitowoc, Wisconsin; two grandchildren: John Tearpock of Manitowoc and Emily Chermak of Madison; his sister-in-law Patricia Chermak of Battle Lake, Minnesota and his nephews: K.C. (Kippen) Chermak of Wayzata, Minnesota and Tony Chermak of Orono, Minnesota. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Patricia and his brother, Kenneth Chermak.

Mike was very active in the community of Manitowoc that he so dearly loved. He and his wife Pat were among the founding group of Heart-A-Rama and it's 1971 debut. What started as a local comedy and variety show that was produced and directed entirely by people in the community soon became a yearly fundraiser which by it's 49th year had garnered $2.9 million dollars for the Wisconsin Heart Association. Mike always gave back to the community having served on the Manitowoc Public School Board for six years of which he was vice-president for two. He was also on the Board of Directors of the Capitol Civic Centre for nine years and served as president for one term.

Mike was also a founding member of the Michigan Avenue Men's Club. He was an avid University of Wisconsin football and basketball fan and a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan. The Cubbies 2016 World Series victory reaffirmed his eternal love for a team that he loyally supported through thick and thin.

Before and after his retirement Mike filled his days with outdoor activities including hunting (both animals and morels), birding and gardening. He was also known to dabble in winemaking, woodworking and stamp collecting and even considered himself somewhat of a military historian.

Mike's family and friends gave him immense joy. He will always be remembered for his dry sense of humor, his kind heart and his enthusiasm for others. The open and welcoming Chermak home was a place where fun and laughter always prevailed. Mike and Pat were a team. It is only fitting that their headstone reads, "Oh what fun we had." Mike will be dearly missed by his family and all those who were lucky enough to know him and were part of his incredible life.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2022 from 1:00 to 3:00 at the All-Care Gathering Center, 925 South 14th Street, Manitowoc. The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Mike's name to The Wisconsin Heart Association or Heart-A-Rama. Memories can be shared at www.lakeshorefamilyfuneralhomes.com
The family would like to thank the staff of Laurel Grove and Shady Lane Nursing Home.
