Horace Shelby was Colorado Springs' first Black police officer and was a founding member of the Colorado Springs Police Department.

With Bishop William A. Washington, of the Church of Christ Holiness conducting the ceremonies, final services for Horace Shelby who died at his home, 942 E. 43rd street, last Friday, were solemnized in the church chapel of the Angelus Funeral Home last Monday afternoon.
Mr. Shelby came here from Henry County, Missouri, over 31 years ago. Internment was in Lincoln Memorial Park.
Horace Shelby was Colorado Springs' first Black police officer and was a founding member of the Colorado Springs Police Department.
