Death of John MITCHELL
John MITCHELL, aged 70 years, 8 months and 18 days, died at his home southeast of Hartington Monday night at midnight after a short illness brought on by lagrippe.
John MITCHELL was born in Ohio and when but a boy moved to Fulton county, ILL, where in 1857 he was united in marriage to Hannah HENDRICKS. To this union ten daughters and three sons were born, of whom seven daughters and one son with their aged mother survive the loved husband and father.
In the year 1881 the family moved from Illinois to Defiance, Iowa, where they resided on a farm until nine years ago when Mr. and Mrs. MITCHELL with the children still at home moved to Cedar county purchasing the farm on which he died, where with the help of his devoted wife they had accumulated enough of this world's goods to begin to take life easy. During his later years he has been quite a breeder of Hereford cattle, taking great pride in his herd.
He was a man of sterling qualities, a good husband and father, a kind and generous neighbor and a man highly respected by all business men for his honesty and square dealing.
Besides the aged wife the surviving relatives are his son, Sam, and daughter, Delphia, at home, Mrs. Rose JACKSON of Manilla, Iowa; Mrs., KREPS of Avon, Illinois; Mrs. Amanda HITTLE of Olson, Wyoming; Mrs. O. H. WEST, Mrs. Ira PORTER and Mrs. Joe BEEMS of Coleridge, Nebraska; his two brothers, Thomas of Kirkman, Iowa; and James of Avon, Illinois, and his sister, Mrs. Williams of LeMars, Missouri.
The funeral services were conducted at the home on Wednesday, afternoon by Rev. Druliner and the remains laid to rest in the Hartington cemetery. The pall bearers were Chas. Jones, E. F. Morris, A. B. Gable, F. M. Kimball, C. H. Whitney and A. V. Park.
