She accepted Christ at an early age while growing up a member of Armstrong Memorial C.M.E. Church. It was there she found her love of singing her heart out for the Lord, proclaiming his goodness and mercy for any and everyone.
Sis. Carter attended Beech Grove Elementary and graduated at the top of her class at J. H. Rowe High School. Because of her need and love of learning, after completing high school, she furthered her education by becoming a licensed beautician as well as an LVN.
Sis. Carter met and fell in love with Rev. L. L. Carter, and once married took on the role of a loving, dutiful preacher's wife. She loved traveling to the various cities, conferences, and churches, getting to know more people and spreading the word of God.
Upon making her home in Beaumont, Texas, she put her nursing license to use and gained employment at St. Elizabeth Hospital, where she eventually retired. She was a faithful member of Douglas Memorial C.M.E. Church until her health failed. She enjoyed being in the choir and tried her best to make it to every service, function or meeting that was held.
She was a nurturer by nature; she did her best to be there for her family, as well as others, at all costs, sometimes giving her last. Always taking care of and being there for others, she would put her needs to the side to ensure that all she encountered had the things they needed, were taken care of and most importantly knew that they were loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Vox and Annie Armstrong, her husband, Rev. L. L. Carter; as well as six sisters, Pauline "Sister," Armstrong, Eddie Bell Davis, Florine Hunter, Vivian Mitchell, Hazel Armstrong, and Morine Logan.
Sis. Carter leaves to cherish her beloved and precious memory to three sisters; Emma Lee Kyles of Houston, Texas, Mary Beaty of Jasper, Texas, and Gloria Kyle of Cypress, Texas; four step children as well as a host of nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
