Actress. She was a German stage actress prior to World War II. On May 3, 1930, she had married Joachim Gottschalk, a successful film actor who played romantic male leads. During the early days of World War II, actors were required to apply for "Aryan certificates." She was Jewish, but her husband was not. After being accused of "rassenschande" or "racial defilement," she was blacklisted from performing. She had been given orders by the Nazi Gestapo to pack and leave Germany in one day and take the couple's eight-year-old son with her. Some sources state she was going to be exported to a concentration camp. Her husband was encouraged to divorce her but refused. He was not allowed to leave with his wife and son. On November 6, 1941, they gave their son sleeping pills, took some themselves, and opened the gas pipe in the apartment, and all three died as a result. With Nazi censorship of the newspapers, many of her husband's devoted fans did not learn of the deaths and the surrounding circumstances until after the war
