FUNERAL HELD AT ELSINORE TUESDAY FOR C. HERMANSEN
Pioneer Civic Church Worker Dies at Home of His Daughter Here
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Elsinore ward chapel for Christian Hermansen, 80, pioneer resident of Sevier ciunty, who died Friday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Carl Ramsey of Richfield.
Mr. Hermansen was born in Ferilev, Denmark, June 25, 1855, a son of Christian Davidson and Inger Marie Pederson. He became a convert of the L.D.S. church in Denmark and emigrated to Utah in 1879, settling first at Redmond and later at Elsinore in 1888.
He was in the furniture, hardware and implement business at Elsinore and was owner of the Elsinore opera house for a number of years. Later he spent some time in Nevada, where he engaged in ranching, mining and real estate business. For several years preceding his death he had been conducting a hotel business in Salt Lake City.
Mr. Hermansen was at one time a member of the Sevier district school board, and was active in affairs in Elsinore, where he served as justice of the peace. His church activities were continuous. He served in the ward bishopric, and was superintendent of the Elsinore Sunday school.
Ten years after emigrating to Utah he returned to Denmark to preform a mission. Banished from his native land at a time when Mormons were being persecuted there, he completed his mission in Norway. He was a high priest at the time of his death.
His wife prededed him in death by seven years. Surviving are five sons, Christian, Nephi, and David L. of Ely, Nevada, and Orson and George J. of Salt Lake City: two daughters, Mrs. Carl Ramsey of Richfield, and Mrs. Clarence Jensen of Ely.
All of Mr. Hermansen's sons and daughters attended the funeral services. Those from Ely and Salt Lake left for their homes Wednesday.
